Little bit of frost around. Air is a bit chilly overall.

Awoke to the sound of waves rolling in. Beautiful sunny day.

Calm

Chilly start to a lovely calm winter's day.

The sun is touching the inside of the front fence by 9.30 a.m., but is climbning up the gradient of the hill so still not much going on in the yard until 11 a.m.

Cloudy start to the day with afternoon showers. Big bright full moon shining through the night.

Morning sun shining through the clouds.

Sea Mist

This morning was clear and frosty. Possibly the coldest morning we've had this year. When I started going for a walk mid-morning, there was a bit of cloud around. When the sun came out, a mist developed all along the shore.

More Kelp

I dragged some more kelp back across the road yesterday. Must get my soil sorted. Winter has been mild so far, and if this continues, the garden should be started sooner than normal. I should be prepared for such things. I'm behind schedule (as per usual) with my soil as it is.

Waking to waves

I awoke to the sound of rough seas this morning.
Aside from the pleasure of watching rough seas from the front window, and the fact that overcast days make living in the shadow of a hill fairly similar to anywhere else (i.e. nobody has sun), winter days like this tend to be warmer in the fridge due to the cloud cover.

Kelp

Kelp soaking in water to wash the salt off.

The beach is a good source of kelp for the garden after rough seas.

I normally only give the kelp a wash with the hose or leave it out in the rain to get rid of the salt, but the kelp I have at the moment that's ready to go into the garden has been soaking in water - only because there happened to be a garden trolley full of water from rain that I figured I might as well use when I dragged the kelp across the road to our yard.

The garden tends to be fairly dormant over winter with the lack of sun, so I try to use that time to improve the soil, ready for spring.

Stone Heart

Every now and then the beach yields a random treat.
I noticed this on new year's day this year.

The Beach

Winter often has more windless days than other seasons.
