Jemima

The two hens are giving us around an egg each a day now - they've been getting a good diet with worms from the freshly dug soil, and the sun must be good for them too.

Sun in the front yard

The sun is streaming into the front yard by 7.30 a.m. now and in the house soon after. Still about 9 or 9.30 a.m. before it's in the back yard. Some frost around this morning. Lovely sunny day. The first morning we've had with no thick cloud for a few days, so was good to see where the sun was at in the morning. Sun drops behind the hill around 3.45 p.m. and will do so for a week or two yet, I'd say - the setting sun is climbing the last peak in the mix to the north.

New front garden area with paver barricade

Dug out the grass in the front garden area and put pavers around the edge to try to stop the grass making its way into the garden. Put soil from the back garden into the dug-out area.

Digging

It was cloudy yesterday; today started cloudy but came out with clear skies and sun. Started getting into the front yard, digging to expand an area where previously I had only used a small patch against the fence for beans. The hens loved it.

Another frosty morning

Frosty morning followed by nice clear day.

The sun is slipping into the front yard by 8.30 a.m. now.

Spot for seat

Plan on sorting out this area to put a seat against the fence. It's just a bit further toward the front of the yard from where I've recently planted the taupatas.

Daffodils planted

Finally got around to putting the daffodil bulbs into the ground on the outside of the front fence.

Moon

Took this photo of the moon this morning by pointing my phone into my telescope.

Daffodils and sunshine

Noticed today the little daffodils in the front yard have popped out in flower. This is also a reminder that I haven't planted the daffodil bulbs I've had in the shed for a while now.

Sun is shining on a patch of ground near the fence in the front yard soon after 9 a.m. now. I need to get that patch of ground ready and planted.

Calm

Chilly start to a lovely calm winter's day.

The sun is touching the inside of the front fence by 9.30 a.m., but is climbning up the gradient of the hill so still not much going on in the yard until 11 a.m.

Rising sun slipping down the hill

The sun is slipping down the gradient of the hill earlier each morning when rising now. The inside front corner of the fence gets light on it before 10 a.m., but it's still about 11 a.m. before the yard gets much.

Cloudy

Cloudy start to the day with afternoon showers. Big bright full moon shining through the night.

Morning sun shining through the clouds.

Allports

A frosty start, but a lovely calm day. I ignored the work that was waiting to be done in the yard and went out for a fish around Allports Island in Queen Charlotte Sound. Aside from the spotties, a blue cod that was just under the 'slot limit' (30cm - 35cm) was all I pulled in.
